beverly-hills-chihuahua-movI’m not the type to dress my dogs up in the hottest doggie fashions or adorn them with lots of flashy bling-bling. The most Archie and Lydia wear is a bandana now and then. Oh yea, and Archie does wear a t-shirt when it thunderstorms, but that’s to keep him calm. So, with that in mind, some of the dogs in Beverly Hills Chihuahua aren’t the type any of us can relate to all that well. Even though they are a bit overdone for my taste (as well as their people!) it’s a cute movie. I had to laugh at the doggie costumes although, for me, the south of the border dogs, and Chloe’s biggest admirer Papi (aka George Lopez) are the real top dogs in this Disney flick! Who can’t love a tough, go get ‘em chihuahua?! There’s just something so huggable about a little dog on a mission…and boy does Papi have one. Here’s what the movie is about…

When a chic Chihuahua named Chloe (voiced by Drew Barrymore) goes astray south of the border, she must find her own way back to her indulgent 90210 life. Wealthy Viv’s (Jamie Lee Curtis) diminutive darling is misplaced in Mexico by a careless dog-sitter (Piper Perabo), thrusting her into the dog-eat-dog life of an ordinary mutt. As Chloe tries to make her way north with the help of her self-appointed protector Delgado (voiced by Andy Garcia) and a pack of new four-legged friends, hometown hero Papi (voiced by George Lopez), Chloe’s ardent Chihuahua admirer, embarks on a cross-cultural mission to rescue his beloved. As Chloe goes from ridiculously spoiled to newly self-sufficient, she also learns to embrace her “tiny but mighty” Chihuahua heritage.

On behalf of all pet sitters everywhere, I feel it’s my duty to point out that the pet sitter in the story is Viv’s neice…not an actual pet sitter. It just goes to show you why hiring a professional pet sitter is the way to go!

Beverly Hills Chihuahua is available on DVD and Blu-ray starting tomorrow.

what’s especially fabulous about this film is that the star, papi, is an adopted chihuahua that was rescued by the movies film makers only days before he was scheduled to be euthanized. this is commendable because there are so many sheltered chihuahuas that need a home and you never know if your adopted chihuahua is going to be the next papi!
